Since bacterial resistance to antibiotics is becoming an increasing problem in treatment of acne, research has been directed to photo and photodynamic therapy as an alternative method of killing bacteria. One of the most recent advances is high intensity, enhanced narrow band blue light phototherapy with BLU-U-417, that is an effective, noninvasive and pain free treatment modality for inflammatory acne in all age groups.

How BLU-U Works

The BLU-U phototherapy system delivers uniform 417 blue light spectrum that penetrates just deep enough to reach the acne target; the sebaceous unit. The intense, pure blue light activates a chemical reaction that produces peroxide (super oxygen) which destroys the acne bacteria that causes inflamed blemishes.

The 8 treatment series is completed in 4 weeks of 2 treatments per week, lasting approximately 16 minutes. There may be a slight warm sensation during the treatment. The advantages of this treatment are multiple, with some of the most appreciated being lack of irritation and no need of exposure to antibiotics.

Recovery Time & Cost

There are no side effects, pain, or recovery time needed for BLU-U treatments. The treatment is suitable for all body areas including large areas and the sensitive beard area. The treatment may be used as a primary treatment or in combination with other treatments such as microdermabrasion, acne peels, and infrared intense pulse light therapy. The cost is $65 per treatment. For severe cases the treatment may be augmented to enhanced photodynamic therapy.
